The Healing Journey is an exciting and innovative programme
to improve the quality of life of people with cancer.
It is based on more than 25 years of clinical experience and research at the Ontario Cancer Institute, Canada’s largest cancer treatment centre and has been developed by Dr Alastair Cunningham, a psychologist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto.
Dr Cunningham has designed a structured educational programme
consisting of numerous psychological and spiritual
exercises and techniques which are designed to make
significant positive changes in the quality of
life of people with cancer, at any stage after diagnosis.
These exercises and techniques include:
Dr Cunningham's work has shown evidence that, in some cases of advanced cancer, intense psychological and spiritual work appears to prolong life substantially beyond what oncologists have predicted. However these findings need to be replicated on a larger scale in other places before they can be more widely accepted.
